What is Kids Fire Camp?

Kids Fire Camp is a free, week-long immersive program hosted by Gaston Fire & Rescue. Campers ages 10–14 learn real firefighting and emergency response skills in a safe, supervised, and fun environment at our station and training facilities.

How much does it cost?

Kids Fire Camp is completely FREE for all participants. The program is funded through community sponsors and the volunteer efforts of our firefighters.

What ages are eligible?

Children ages 10 through 14 are eligible to participate.

When is the registration deadline?

Registration closes on May 4, 2026. We encourage families to register early to secure their spot.

Where does camp take place?

Camp takes place at the Gaston Fire & Rescue main station and surrounding training facilities located at 210 Old Emporia Road, Gaston, NC.

What certifications will my child earn?

Campers have the opportunity to earn CPR certification, fire aid certification, and other emergency response certifications through hands-on training with certified instructors.

What should my child bring each day?

Campers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. We recommend bringing a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, and a positive attitude. All equipment and gear is provided by the department.

Is there a limit on how many campers can attend?

No. We welcome all eligible youth in our community to participate in the program.

Who are the instructors?

All activities are led by trained and certified volunteer firefighters from Gaston Fire & Rescue. Safety is our top priority at every station.

What to Expect

Fire Camp is a week-long, immersive experience that introduces youth ages 10–14 to real firefighting and emergency response. Supervised by certified Gaston Fire & Rescue volunteers, campers train alongside active firefighters at our station and training facilities.

This isn’t a classroom — it’s hands-on. Campers deploy hose lines, climb ladders, perform rope rescue, and build life-saving skills they’ll carry forever. By the end of the week, they walk away with real certifications and real confidence.

Learn knot tying, belaying, and basic rope rescue techniques used in real emergencies.

Emergency Medical

Ladder Climbing

Build confidence climbing aerial and ground ladders under safe supervision.

Water Rescue

Introduction to water safety, throw bags, and surface water rescue basics.

Wildlife Survival

Learn outdoor survival skills, wildlife awareness, and how first responders navigate the wilderness.

SCBA Operations

Get fitted with real breathing apparatus and learn how firefighters operate in smoke.

Hose Deployment

Master hose rolls, connections, and nozzle techniques on a real fire engine.

Public Safety & Law Enforcement

Meet local law enforcement, explore patrol vehicles, and learn how public safety agencies work together.
