Gaston Cadets Visit Fire Rescue Expo and District Office

Gaston Fire & Rescue cadets and their advisors traveled to Raleigh on Friday, August 14, for the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo, one of the region's largest gatherings of fire and rescue professionals.

The cadets explored the exhibit floor and saw some of the newest fire apparatus, equipment, tools, and technology available to the fire service. They also met firefighters and other public safety professionals from across North Carolina and beyond.

The exhibit hall introduced them to career paths and specialties from across the fire and rescue service.

On the way home, the group stopped in Rocky Mount for a tour of Congressman Don Davis' district office. Members of the Congressman's staff welcomed the cadets, showed them around, and explained how a congressional district office helps the people and communities it represents.

Staff members explained what happens inside a district office and how the office works with residents and the communities it represents. The stop connected the cadets' firehouse lessons in leadership and communication with the day-to-day work of another public service organization.

The Cadet Program combines fire and rescue training with teamwork, responsibility, confidence, and community service. Trips like this give cadets a chance to see those lessons at work outside the station.

The department thanks Congressman Davis and his staff for welcoming the group. Gaston Fire & Rescue is also grateful to the cadet advisors who gave their time to make the trip possible.
